The slightly shorter route
Get onto the N3 and continue via Pietermaritzburgtowards Estcourt. Pass the Estcourt South offramp and continue along the N3 until you reach Exit 179 to Estcourt North and the Central Drakensberg.
At the top of the offrampturn leftand continue through theLoskopsettlement for about 30 km till you come to a four way stop with the thatched Thokozisa shopping centre on your left.
Turn left onto the R600 and continue for 5 kms till you see signs pointing right to the D53 and Bell Park Dam.
Turn right onto theD53 and continue for about 6 kms till you see the Bell Park Damwall on your right and a steepish rise ahead of you. NB: Do NOT turn off to Cayley Lodge.
At the top of the rise on the right you will see the Clivia Hill signboard and a security gate set in a stone wall.
Drive through and follow the signs to Clivia Hill, which is the furthest of the six cottages along the edge of the dam. Drive through the entrance and
park
on the concrete drive alongside the nearest corner of the house.
The slightly longer route
About 120 kms beyond Pietermaritzburg on the N3 look for the Colenso/ Bergville offramp and take it.
Turn left at the top of the offramp and continue for about 20 kms till you get to Winterton.
Continue through Winterton till you get to Winterton’s only traffic lights.
At the traffic lights turn left and cross over the railway line onto the R600 toward the Central Drakensberg.
After 13 kms you will get to a four-way stop with the thatched Thokozisa shopping centre across from you on the left.
Continue straight through the crossroads on the R600 and after 5 kms look for the sign to the D53 and Bell Park Dam. Turn right onto the D53.
Turn right onto the D53 and continue for about 6 kms till you see the Bell Park Dam wall on your right and a steepish rise ahead of you. NB: Do NOT turn off to Cayley Lodge.
At the top of the rise on the right you will see the Clivia Hill signboard and a security gate set in a stone wall.
Drive through and follow the signs to Clivia Hill, which is the furthest of the six cottages along the edge of the dam. Drive through the entrance and
park
on the concrete drive alongside the nearest corner of the house.
From Bloemfontein get onto the N1 North and head for Winburg.
Just past Winburg take the offramp to
the N5 to Senekal and Bethlehem.
From Bethlehem continue along the N5 to Harrismith.
At Harrismith get onto the N3 and go over Van Reenen’s Pass.
Continue on the N3 to the Tugela Toll Plaza and go through it. About 16 kms after the Tugela Toll Plaza look for signs to the R616 (to Bergville, Northern Drakensberg, Ladysmith).
Take the offramp onto the R616 and turn left towards Ladysmith.
After about 4kms on the R616 look for signs to the R600 (to Winterton, Central Drakensberg).
Turn right onto the R600 to Winterton and continue for about 30 kms till you come to a T-junction.
Turn left to Winterton and continue about 1km to the traffic lights.
At the traffic lights turn right onto the continuation of the R600. Cross over the railway lines and continue along the R600 for 13kms till you come to a four way stop with the with the thatched Thokozisa shopping centre across on your left. Go straight through the crossroads and stay on the R600 for 5 kms, at which point you will see signs to the D53 and Bell Park Dam.
Turn right onto the D53 and continue for approximately 6kms. NB: Do NOT turn off to Cayley Lodge.
After 6 kms you will see the Bell Park Dam wall on your right and a steepish rise in front of you.
At the top of the rise on your right you will see the Clivia Hill signboard and a security gate set in a stone wall.
Drive through and follow the Clivia Hill signs around to the left. Clivia Hill is the furthest of the six cottages along the edge of Bell Park Dam. Drive through the entrance and
park
on the concrete drive alongside the nearest corner of the house.
Take the N11 to Ladysmith. Turn right into Lyell Street at the traffic lights at the lower end of Murchison Street.
Drive along Lyell street through the next traffic lights, moving out of town.
Take the offramp to the left to Colenso/Durban. After 4 kms turn right onto the road to Bergville.
After about 12 kms turn left onto the R600 to Winterton.
Continue along the R600 for about 30 kms. At the T-junction turn left towards Winterton.
At Winterton’s only traffic lights turn right and cross over the railway lines to continue along the R600 towards the Central Drakensberg.
After 13 kms you will come to a four-way stop with the thatched Thokozisa shopping centre across the road on your left. Drive straight through the crossroads and continue along the R600 for 5 kms. Now look for signs to the D53 and Bell Park Dam.
Turn right onto the D53 to Bell Park Dam and continue along the D53 for 6 kms. NB. Do NOT turn off right to Cayley Lodge.
After 6 kms you will see the Bell Park Dam wall on your right and a steepish rise in front of you. At the top of the rise on your right there is a Clivia Hill signboard and a security gate set into a stone wall.
Follow the signs to Clivia Hill around to your left. Clivia Hill Guest Cottage is the furthest of the six cottages along the edge of Bell Park Dam. Drive through the entrance and
park
on the concrete drive alongside the nearest corner of the house.
From the Johannesburg or Pretoria area, get onto the N3 South to Durban.
Continue down the N3 to Harrismith and take the off-ramp to the N5 to Bethlehem, then drive approximately 5 kms toward Bethlehem.
Now look for the sign on the left to the R74 to Bergville. Turn left onto the R74. After about 8 kms you will reach another T-junction. Turn left again onto the R74 towards Bergville.
Continue past the Sterkfontein Dam and down the Olivier’s Hoek Pass, proceeding on the R74 through Bergville until you get into Winterton.
As you enter Winterton, turn right at the traffic lights onto the R600 and cross over the railway line. Continue along the R600 for 13 kms, when you will come to a four-way stop with the thatched Thokozisa shopping centre across on your left. Go straight through the crossroads and travel a further 5 kms on the R600.
Now look for signs to the D53 and Bell Park Dam. Turn right onto the D53. NB: Do NOT turn off to Cayley Lodge.
Continue on the D53 for about 6 kms until you see the Bell Park Dam wall on your right and a steepish rise in front of you.
